Playing and marking clips

- [Instructor] Before I start talking about playing and marking clips, I'm just going to take a second, go up to the Workspace menu, say Reset my UI. Everything gets reset back to default and then I'll go into say Full Screen to get rid of that top window bar. I'm going to go here to my editing page. I'll make these a little bit larger, there we go. And I can scrub over the clips and I can actually mark in and out points, I and O, while I scrub. You'll notice this clip has got about five seconds marked. I'm going to drag the next clip over. I can drag left and right directly. I can use I and O as well as J, K, and L. And J, K, and L if you don't know it, J and L go multiple times faster and forward and backwards and the K key pauses. The I key's right above them. I'll hit the L key twice or three times. K key pause, put an out point. There is an in and out mark and that in and out's about another five seconds. The slash key plays around wherever I'm clicked at so let's put it right there, I'll hit the slash key. And it's backing up two seconds before and two seconds after. If you want to change that, you'll find that here under Preferences, under Editing, here under Pre-roll and Post-roll time. I'm going to hit Save. Option + slash key plays from in to out. Alright, I'm going to do the same thing for an interview shot. So I'm going to go to my Interviews. I'm going to load up the second interview. Now interview shots, it's probably more useful for us to look at the waveform. I'd like you to see in the bottom left we can choose the audio track and you can see the waveform. I'll use J, K, and L here. - [Interviewee] Provides, it's already done the artwork. - [Instructor] And up at the top you can see I can click and drag to see what part of it I'm looking at. So at the top is the entire waveform and the bottom is the section we're working on. A little bit more interactive way switching back to the source is found here under the Options menu. And it's called Show Zoomed Audio Waveform or Show Full Clip Audio Waveform. Let's do Full Clip first. There's that waveform overlaid onto the clip. Play forward. - Reputation that they left here. - [Instructor] And an easier way to see it is to Show the Zoomed Audio Waveform. - And not sully that reputation. Unfortunately, it has become commercialized. - [Instructor] And it provides a really easy way to see what somebody's saying as they're saying it. Now I want a particular section here so I'm going to back this up to about 51 seconds, J, K, and L go backwards. And I'm going to grab this section here about Mamantra. I'll mark an I in point and start playing. - I came here basically to see the museums, to see the great artists, I wanted to see Mamant and I ended up started drawing street portraits. - [Instructor] K key pause, I'm going to set an out point. There it is at about 1:01. Now a couple things I can do with this. I can leave this alone. I can also right-click here, anywhere underneath here, anywhere in this line, and create a subclip. And that's option + B or alt + B to create a subclip for just that specific speech section. I'm going to load up the original clip. I'm going to grab a different section. It's option or alt + I or option or alt + O to clear the in and out points. Also, option or alt + X would work. I'm going to go to about 1:10. This one will do just from the audio. I'm going to switch here to the audio track. - [Interviewee] The money was quite good and it subsidized my paintings. - [Instructor] So right about here I'm going to put an end point. - [Interviewee] There are very very few people who can sell, who can make a living out of selling paintings. - [Instructor] I'm going to set an out point. And once again, I'll hit that option or alt + B to make a subclip. I'll switch it back to the source. So those are big key concepts about playing and marking clips. Last concept, I can hit the letter M for a marker to set a marker. I hit the M a second time and I can actually name that marker and colorize it. I'm going to call this On Painting. I'll name the marker as well. Notice markers can have a range. We can make that take longer than one frame. We can maybe make it 30 frames or let's make it and say Done.
