Planning out your content and release schedule

- [Instructor] Having a consistent release schedule can greatly help you build your channel and maintain a fan base. After all, we do live in a world that's constantly churning out content. (computer chiming) Oh, there's some now. So, setting a specific time and day can also help your viewers know just when they can expect new videos from you. It might feel a little old-fashioned, but you can think of your release schedule kind of like old-school TV programming. Remember when we talked about quality versus quantity? Well, it's the same thing. Because of TV programming, people have come to expect YouTube content to release on a consistent weekly schedule. And just like TV programming, they not only expect videos to release on the same day, but also at the same time every week. So, let's break down how you can build a release schedule that not only works for you, but also for your subscribers. According to an article on Tubefilter, the best days to post a YouTube are Thursdays or Fridays. This is because at the beginning of the week, most people are on work deadlines and are trying to stay focused on their tasks at hand. But by the end of the week, they've hit their deadlines and are binge-watching those cat videos like no tomorrow. (cat meowing) Tubefilter's article also found that the best times to post a video on those days were between noon and 3:00 p.m. That's because lunchtime has historically been a high peak traffic time for YouTube. It's the natural break time in people's day where they can check social media and watch videos. Note, however, these are East Coast times in the United States, so depending on what part of the world you're in, you'll want to adjust your release time to that time zone. Now that you've picked a day and time to release your videos, here are four tips on how to have a successful release schedule. Number one, and most importantly, be consistent. Pick a day and time to release and stick with it. This way, your subscribers will know when to expect videos from you and can come to depend on it. If you do miss a release day, just make sure you communicate that with your subscribers either through social media or through the community tab. Number two, post to social media a day or two before your video releases. I like to post the day before the release so my fans know a video is coming. I tend to post the thumbnail for the video the day before the release, and then a GIF or a clip from the video the day of the release. Number three, on release day, make sure you share your video everywhere. The first hour to 24 hours are the most critical times to get views. By driving traffic to your video in this timeframe, you're letting the YouTube algorithm know right away that this is a video people want to watch, and thus YouTube will promote it more. And finally, number four, batch record. By batch recording your videos, you can record multiple at once, and thus have a stockpile of videos already ready to go, which comes in handy when life gets busy from time to time. This can also severely help with burnout, as it cuts down on the setup time it takes to shoot each video. Plus, you can plan out your content ahead of time and be ahead of the curve. And that's it. By sticking with a consistent release schedule and using these tips, your subscribers will be ready and waiting for every video release. Oh, speaking of, I got to go release a video before my subscribers revolt.
