- OK, you got your lights, you got your stands. You're all set, right? Well, not entirely. Often, you'll need a way to control your lights to bring your vision to life. Barn doors are a must if you have a hard light. These doors come in from the side and allow you to control where the light goes. They're great for controlling spill, creating accents, hair-lights, as well as keeping light from hitting the camera lens. They don't always come with the fixture. And most are not universal. So make sure to budget them in. Depending on the light, they can cost around $75. It's also a good idea to get a variety pack of color correction gels, like CTB, Color Temperature Blue. And CTO, Color Temperature Orange. These gel filters change the color temperature of the light. So, if you need a cooler color from a tungsten fixture, just add CTB. Same goes for a daylight fixture. If the 5600k light is too blue, then clip on CTO, and it will get you closer to 3200k. These gels come in multiple…
