- Ingesting footage sounds a little disgusting, … but it's really important, it's what we do, … we take those cards, those media cards … from the digital cameras and we make sure … that they go into a laptop like this, … usually a much bigger hard drive than this, … and usually some external hard drives. … So this is all very important stuff and something … you want to reconfirm on the day of your shoot. … You want to be sure that the metadata on those cards … reflects something about your shoot, … usually the time and date of the shoot at a bare minimum … and I personally like to have the initials of the DP … on there too, because you'd be surprised how many times … I get into the edit room and I have a question … about something and then we can remember, … oh that's the person who shot that, we can call, find out, … does she remember, did we do this before that, … so I can look for that footage in the right place, … so it's very helpful to have those initials. … I like to use the 3-2-1 backup system, …
