In this video, learn about how Match Frame has the ability to load the original clip into the source. Additionally, learn about its sibling feature, Find, in Media Pool—the equivalent of the Find bin.
- [Instructor] Starting in this section, I'm going to switch projects to one that's pre-built. I'm going to choose the Home button here. It's the same as going to the File menu and saying Project Manager. And I'm going to choose Resolve for Editors. Inside of this, I've got a folder of sequences pre-built for the rest of this title. On this timeline here, I'm just going to mouse to any individual clip. I'm going to hit the letter F. The letter F is match frame. And let's just see that Command + Plus, Command + Plus or Control + Plus on the PC, match in the middle of that clip, and hit the letter F for match frame, and it loads that clip up into the timeline.
Now, it's just finding the one from the actual project. Again, I don't even have that selected. I can hit the letter F. It's doing this based on the highest track visible. I'm going to do a Shift + Z a second. You'll notice all these are on V2. If I want the clip on V1, I need to turn off the auto select on V2. Now I hit the letter F and it's showing me the clip that was underneath. If I would like to find this clip in the media pool, I can right-click on the clip and choose Find in Media Pool. Alternatively, I can go up to the Clip menu and find that same choice.
Now, the F match frame feature, this is the raw clip. When I select this clip here and I hit the letter F, this is the raw clip. This is not the one in the timeline. If I adjust the in and out points, it doesn't affect the one on the timeline. Just as a warning, a heads up. This is related to trimming. If I were to double-click this clip, notice the name change here. Let me just for a moment hide the media pool. When I go ahead and I double-click this clip, it's going to stop saying B Roll Paris Building. Double-clicking, it says B Roll Paris Buildings and the name of the sequence.
And if I shorten this clip up here, if I just drag the out point over, you'll notice it's making a gap on the timeline. I'm going to go ahead and undo that. The last thing I'd like to show you here is under the Edit menu, we happen to have an Undo History. And this is just the step of everything that's gone on since you've opened up this project. I like to keep this open on a second screen just so I can see what my last steps were.
