Managing up: The client-freelancer video partnership
- When you're a freelancer, you're probably gonna be working with lots of other people and some of them are kind of parallel to you in their jobs. It's really important to manage those relationships and be sure to have good working relationships sideways, so to speak. But one of the tricky things is managing up. That is, managing the person who's above you or making approvals. Could be the person managing the project for the client. And so it's really important to build that client/freelancer partnership. Make sure that they feel like they're really a team with you and that your job is ultimately to make them look good. This means understanding a little bit more than just the parameters of your project. We talked about the obvious things like timelines, deliverables, and specs, and those are absolutely critical to nail down at the beginning.
