Introduction to this course

- [Instructor] In this training series, we're going to be looking at color and how to take your footage from bland and lifeless or even downright ugly and make it something beautiful. I get a lot of questions on social media and in my classes or whatever about how to color grade. The problem is that much of the tutorials and training out there just kind of skim the surface or show you how to do one isolated technique. My goal in this course is to give you a deeper understanding of the fundamental principles of color and color correction. That way when we cover the techniques, it will make sense why we're doing what we're doing. You'll be able to apply that understanding to your own work. So we're going to start by breaking down and simplifying a lot of the core principles involved in color theory and color grading. We'll talk about the types of things that the human brain finds beautiful or interesting. Then we'll get into the basics of how to grade footage, as well as how and why to check your work using color scopes. We'll look at how to do color correction in a host of applications, including the free REDCINE-X, as well as in Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and DaVinci Resolve. By the end of the course, you'll realize how similar color grading is all across the board, giving you the confidence to color correct using any tools out there. And we'll look at tons of bonus stuff along the way too, such as what goes into making footage look more cinematic, or how to use these color concepts to create better composites and visual effects, or how to get your edit from Premiere into DaVinci Resolve but then back again, and so much more. Color correction might feel technical initially, but once you know what you're doing, then you get to be the lucky one that just makes everything more beautiful. Colorists bring out the best of everyone else's work and help to mask or remove problems in footage. It's such fun stuff, so let's jump in and get started.
