- A common mistake that most folks make when it comes to job interviews is thinking that they need to do all the talking. After all, they're interviewing you to find out if you're a good fit for the job. But really, it needs to be a two-sided conversation. The fact of the matter is, people like to talk about themselves. And the more you get them talking, they actually feel that it's a better interview. But what you want to do here is ask intelligent questions, not generic questions. Don't ask something like, "Oh, what type of work do you guys do here?" Rather, take a look at their particular client roster and some recent examples and say, "Oh, I examined your portfolio and I really like this piece. "What's it like doing work for, name the client."
