Exploring common motion graphics tasks

- There are a lot of tools that a motion graphics artist needs to know, but just understanding the tools is not enough. The reason you have tools is for accomplishing tasks to help you reach a creative goal. So what are the tasks that MoGraph artists need to know? Well, that depends on the type of things they work on. An artist will get asked to work on a variety of different projects, like a lower third identifying a key person, or a show bumper to take viewers into and out of a commercial break. To understand this better, let's take a look at three different motion graphics pieces. The first clip is from a sports drink commercial, and the artist needed to add a variety of effects to help energize the visuals and communicate the branding message. They had to use 2D tracking to attach graphics to actors moving in the scene, and rotoscoping to isolate the actor from their background, and 3D particle effects to create the feeling of energy in this shot.
