Essential production terminology

- As a production assistant, it's important to know the terms that folks use on set. A way to think about is that production has its own language. If you know the words ahead of time, it will help you stand out as a PA. Not just that, but you'll also understand what's being asked of you and what's going on. There are a lot of words and phrases that are used on set that sound like everyday words. Just because you know what they mean, doesn't mean they mean the same thing on set. Here's an example of a scenario. You're on set and the grip asks you for a cookie. So, you go to crafty and get a delicious chocolate chip cookie. You take it back to the grip, who then is really confused. What's going on is that the grip asked you for a cucoloris, which is a light modifier that breaks up light into patterns.
