Developing your idea into a framework

- Once you have a collection of potentially good film candidates, it's time to start putting the ideas to the test. First, you need to ask yourself if you really want to make a film about the topic. Making a documentary takes a lot of time. Many times, people are are initially very excited about the topic, but this enthusiasm can wane over time. So, it's often that passion for the topic that takes you through and keeps you engaged even when things become difficult or tedious. With the Project RELO documentary, this was something that I definitely asked myself repeatedly. Veteran underemployment was a topic that hadn't really crossed my mind prior to getting Mike's message. But the more I talked with Mike and Christian, the more I learned about their cause, and the more the idea just swept over me, and it eventually did become a passion.
