- All right, now earlier we talked about coverage and how you are going to tell your story via the shots you're choosing to cover your scenes with. Now in a perfect world when you get on set, you're going to have time to shoot every single one of those shots that you put on your shot list. But, the reality is, is that things happen stuff takes longer than you expected or equipment fails and inevitably, you will find yourself in a situation where you need to rethink how you're going to cover a scene. And that's okay. Because one of the ways you can do that is something called shooting for the edit. And it's actually a really great tool and not something scary at all. What shooting for the edit means is basically you shoot things based on how you expect you will use them in the final product. In the old days of the studio system, directors actually used to do this on purpose because what it meant is that they couldn't be recut.…
