Comparing home studio recording equipment

- Recording video comes with all sorts of different options, which produces all sorts of different results. So for this episode, I thought it might be useful to just give you a sense of different camera and mic setups while keeping everything else the same. So we'll stay in the same space, we'll have the same basic framing, same lighting, but I'll swap out various cameras and mics, so you can hear and see the differences. So I'd like to start with something most of you already have, which is a webcam. I'm on a 2018 MacBook Pro, which comes with a camera that records at 720p. So that's HD, but it's the lowest resolution among the various HD flavors. Still the image quality is decent, and I'm just using the built-in mic on my MacBook Pro. So this is the classic video call setup. And it's fine in a pinch, but if you want higher quality audio, you're going to want to switch out your mic. Here's the webcam with a lavalier…
