You do not want to get so tied up in project management that you do not get your work done. As you balance things out, think about control versus speed. In this video, Richard Harrington discusses balancing control and speed, and how it can help you become more effective.
- Another thing to think about…is balancing speed with control.…You don't want to get so tied up in project management…that you don't actually get your work done.…You might have noticed that we haven't been talking…about tons of software tools here.…I didn't fire open Microsoft Project…or start to create a Gantt Chart.…While those things are useful in many organizations,…what we're really talking here…are simple routine communication practices,…basic documents that describe the scope,…and the budget, and the schedule.…
When you do these things and you take the time…to manage your project,…you're going to get the results that you want.…But I don't want you to suffer…from analysis paralysis.…It's important that you balance things out.…Remember you're trying to really balance control with speed.…If you employ an organized, tactical approach…you can thrive in the changing…film, video, and photo industries.…This means that you are doing enough project management…that you're ensuring profitability.…But not so much that you're stifling creativity.…
