- So throughout your shoot days, one thing that you're definitely gonna wanna do is backup the footage that you shot. I actually even backup my footage to two separate drives to make sure that in case anything happens, whether it be to the memory cards that you're recording to, or either of those portable drives, that I have my material backed up. The reason that I backup comes from my experience in long form documentary. At one point I cut a Johnny Cash film, and as an insurance requirement, not only did we have backups on site, but we also had hard drives that we took off set to make sure that we would maximize risk, and I try to apply this out on the field as well, so I backup to two drives in particular to backup my footage, and then when I get home, I also try to take some of that content and also upload it to the web. I use Google Drive in particular for some of my proxy as well as my raw footage. The reason that I backup so much comes from my experience with long form…
