With proper lighting, we can modify the mood of the scene, add depth and dimension, and separate actors and objects from the foreground, midground, and background. We started the scene using only the kitchen's safety lights. Obviously, this alone didn't work for us technically or creatively. We then turned on the first LED light to light the chef. Note how the exposure on his face is proper, but we lack depth behind him. We isolated our subject, but there's no sense of space. We simply don't know how big or small this kitchen is. This would work perfectly if for some reason, we don't want to show the space. Say, it is very messy or unattractive or it simply doesn't belong to the story. The second light as you can see, was placed about five feet behind the chair, directed towards the stove. We intentionally changed the color temperature to something cooler than the first light, to exaggerate the separation between the subject and his background.
