Norman: Now it's time to start looking at all of the material that have been shot for the scene. These are traditionally called Dailies or Rushes. Some people now call them Raw Material or Unedited Footage. The word dailies comes from the fact that the footage that was shot on one day is to be processed in a lab, printed onto film, synced to sound, and screened for everyone on the set the next day. So we would screen the footage on a daily bases. Now a days with digital video we're shooting so much material everyday that it's harder to devote the time to looking at it all before editing it but I find that it's really impossible to do a good job editing material if you don't know what's there. So we've spent some time examining the script for the scene that we'll be editing in Magellan, scene 31. And that's going to help us look at the footage, but it doesn't replace examining the footage.
