Planning out the project logistics

How much planning and what type of planning you need to do will vary greatly depending on the project that you're working on. At the simplest level, you'll need to plan where you're going to shoot, if you're working on a documentary. That where might be decided by your subject. If you're planning a feature style shoot, the where will be determined by the needs of your script. In both cases, you'll need to learn a good number of things about your locations. First, you need to know if you can get access to them. Are they available to shoot in on the days that you need them. And will there be a fee to shoot there? If there isn't a fee, will you need to get a permit? Bear in mind that just because you're shooting in a public space, that doesn't mean that you're actually allowed to just truck in a crew and start shooting.
