When to use rails

- The small camera size is pretty awesome when you're out shooting for the day, for stills, or you're trying to be inconspicuous, but it's pretty easy to damage these cameras. They've got really fragile ports on the side. There's really very little mounting places except for a hot shoe or a cold shoe, and that's not designed to hold a lot of weight, so we need to really build up a strong foundation. - So we're gonna implement a build-out system that will not only offer support and protection, but allow us to accessorize the camera, and the basic building block at the bottom of that whole system is the rail and support system at the base that usually attaches to a tripod. - I've got a couple of them here, these are just two different varieties, but at the foundation, we're gonna end up with something to attach the tripod plate to so it's nice and firm when it gets mounted, and a rail system. - Right, so you usually need a quick release plate of some kind to join it with the tripod, a…
