Understanding the role of a low-pass filter

- As you start shopping for new cameras or examine the camera you already own there's one key feature that you need to pay particular attention to, and that is whether or not your camera has an optical low-pass filter, and some people call it an anti-aliasing filter. And in this case the Sony a7R and the a7R two does not have that filter, because the R is all about resolution. Jim, this is an important choice, right? When you're shooting video what's your feelings about the low-pass filter? Well, one of the things I noticed when I started shooting with DSLR and smaller cameras was that there was an inherent softness in the video footage that needed sometimes some sharpening in post, or just, the edge was off. And the reason they were doing that was to deal with these artifacting issues, these aliasing issues, and the moire that everybody hates with these full frame cameras. Now so when I consider video shooting of course I want that stuff minimized, so I might choose an S or a S mark…
