- [Instructor] For visualizing CAD data in Unreal Engine there are a few things you want to be aware of for translating data into Unreal Engine from a variety of different CAD packages. Some of the basics are that CAD data typically needs to be converted into something that is Unreal Engine friendly, and the typical type of data that you're going to need to work with is polygons, so if you're working in a CAD package that's working with surfaces, maybe it's an IGES file, or a STEP file, or any other kind of file related to CAD data, you are going to need to tessellate that or convert it over to polygons. Now, if it's converted to quads, if you're working with quadrangulated meshes, that's always ideal especially if you need to lay out UVs. The engine itself will take care of triangulating the mesh, so you don't need to worry about that, but of course, if the mesh is already triangulated it's fine as well to come into Unreal Engine as well.
