Setting the scene: Real world scale
- [Voiceover] The most basic and, arguably, most important initial setting for an asset or environment for VR is scale. It's important to emulate and mimic real world scale as closely as possible. Making objects bigger or smaller than they actually are in the world world can not only destroy the believability of the experience, but it can also lead to discoMfort associated with VR and motion sickness. So we're gonna take a look at a couple things that we can do with VR world scale for viewer comfort. In a VR project, objects are most comfortably viewed from about .75 to 3.5 meters, which is aroung 2.5 to 11.5 feet. From the viewer camera. So this is actually measured distance that research has found to be most comfortable for a virtual reality experience, for most people. So, with that said with meters and feet, when working with scale in Maya, Unreal and Unity, for example, units can be set to what you need them to be.
