IES light profiles are types of data files that describes how a light is cast. Tom Sirdevan, look developer and lighting artist, will show you where you can find IES light profiles and how to use them on your point lights and spot lights in Unreal 4 to simulate real-world lights for use in not only video games but also architectural visualization and interior design.
- [Voiceover] Lets take a look at IES light profiles.…IES light profiles allow you to take real world data…of the physical distribution of a particular light…and apply it to a point or spotlight in Unreal…to give it that extra bit of realism.…IES stands for illumination engineering society.…Among other places you can download IES light profiles…from the Philips lighting website.…If you scroll down you can see there's…different categories of lights…and if I click on one of those, "Halogen" for example.…
You can see a list of all of their products…and their corresponding IES light profile data file.…If I click on one of these it's actually going to…show the guts of the file.…It's all a bunch of numbers,…we don't really have to concern our self with that.…What I really want to do is right-click,…"save link as", and I can save that to a local directory.…I've actually gone ahead and downloaded a bunch of them.…So if you go back into Unreal,…you're gonna scroll over to the courtyard area,…and create a point light.…
