- [Instructor] Once you have downloaded and installed Unity, we need to set up a project. Log in with your Unity account. If this is your first time logging into this version of Unity, you'll be greeted with a screen much like this. So in here, we need to define a brand new project and that's exactly what we're going to do right now. But before we do that, I just want to do a little tour as to what you get when you first open up Unity after you've signed in with your account. You have two tabs at the top. A Projects, and a Learn.
We'll come back to the Projects here in a moment. The Learn tab is a great place to see resources that are constantly being updated here with things like, basic tutorials, all the way down to links to other resources online at Unity there as well. So let's go back to our Projects tab. Now, what I want to do is create a brand new project and I can either do this by hitting the plus sign new up here, or by hitting new project right in the middle. And just a note on that, if you happen to have an existing project that you want to open, you can simply click open, and find the project to open it.
In this case here, we're going to start fresh with a brand new project. It's also worth noting that we have On Disk and In the Cloud. And what these two areas represent here is that, if we're working collaboratively in a project and we have it saved locally on our hard drive or a server, or if we have it saved somewhere in a collaborative project on the cloud somewhere, we can access those here as well. So let's create a brand new project. I'm going to hit the blue button here, new project. And what it's going to do is bring this interface open.
Now Unity works on the basis of being able to work in a 3D sense or 2D sense. It's worth noting here as well that at any time in either project you actually can work with different elements here but this is where you want to define which way you're going here. If you're building a 2D specific project with assets related to that, or a 3D one, this is where you can define that to start. We're working with 3D so we'll leave it at 3D. And we want to create a new project name.
In this case here, I'm just going to keep this project name simple, and I'm going to go, U for Unity2017. And then I'm just going to put, ET on the end for essential training. Define the location where you want to put it, I'm going to leave mine as the default here on my documents. And if you have an organization name, you can certainly make sure that that is selected in there as well. So we're going to come back to something like this a little bit later, adding asset packages, but for right now we're just going to keep it as this.
We've defined a name, we're working with 3D, and we're going to create project. What Unity is going to do now is actually create the default project structure for us to be able to work with Unity and it's going to launch Unity and allow us to go in and begin to work within that project. Once we've created that simple project and Unity has opened up for us, we're able to start working with how we want to define this project in here. So now that we're in Unity and we have a basic project opened up, we can begin to define or organize things a little bit further.
