A challenge with particle workflows has always been to attain decent lighting that effectively matches the surrounding environment. With Unity 5.4, particles can be lit more realistically by utilising a 3D grid of interpolated light probes inside a bounding volume. This new process called Light Probe Proxy Volumes, or “LPPV” for short, helps solve the challenge of matching particle lighting.
