File basics
- [Instructor] We've taken a look at disks and folders, now, let's take a look at files. Files are simply documents holding some kind of data. They have extensions at the end of their name like .txt, .xls or .pdf, et cetera. Those extensions are simply there to help the system understand which application should be used to open that file. It's a little bit unfortunate, but by default, these extensions are frequently hidden by the Windows operating system, which means you can't see them. Since we absolutely do need to see those file extensions for most RPA applications, be sure to go back and watch the Views lecture where I discuss setting up the appropriate view for your folders and enabling these file extensions to be shown. Software robots can get a list of files within a folder. We just need to provide the robot with the right path, the same way we did for folders.
