- If you lefties have been struggling, I have a few good tips for you. You'll see that it is possible to get the right pen-edge angle in relation to the writing line. My letters won't be nearly as steady as when I write with my right hand, because I'm not a natural lefty, so forgive my shaky letters, but here goes. First, if I as a righty I would normally have my paper angled like this, as a lefty, you're going to swivel that around quite a bit so that it's like this. Then, you're going to tuck your elbow into the side of your body like this. Now when you hold the pen, you're in the right position to achieve that 45-degree pen-edge angle that I demonstrated earlier for righties. Using this method, you won't smear your hand over the wet ink. So, all right, let's give it a shot. So 45-degree pen-edge angle, you can see that's the correct pen-edge angle.
