Measuring with calipers

Now we're going to take some measurements of our knob so we can accurately reproduce it. We're going to think about our part in terms of the orthographic fuse we just learned about. In addition to helping you see your part from different vantage points for those who might not feel very confident sketching it's often easier to draw and record a variety of 2D views of your objects than try to attempt a 3D perspective drawing. For measuring the best tool for the job is a digital caliper. High end calipers can be a couple hundred dollars but this is an inexpensive $20 set and it's all that you need to get started. If you don't have a caliper you can also use a slide rule or a ruler. It just get's a little tougher to get precise measurements. Alright, so, let's turn on these calipers. And we want to make sure that we're set to the metric system and we want to use millimeters as our unit. So we want to start by looking at the front aka the elevation.
