Understanding the Theta file formats

- It's important to understand the different kinds of files that the THETA produces because, depending on whether you're shooting stills or video, you get different things out of the THETA. And, detpending on the types of edits that you wanna do, you might need to work with one type of file or the other. So, let's talk about stills first. The THETA always produces JPEGs. There is, unfortunately, no way of getting raw data or and uncompressed file out, but they're really clean JPEGs. I haven't actually seen JPEG artifacting in them in any way, which is nice. If I open one up, it looks like this. You've seen this already, it's what you saw in your viewfinder on the THETA if you were in panorama mode. This is an equirectangular image. So on the THETA, of course, I have two lenses, one on either side. I'm shooting 360 degrees, 180 degrees with each lens, with a little bit of space in the middle.
