This tutorial looks at the various way to checkout items for editing in Visual Studio. The options range from auto checkout to explicit checkout. There is also a section exploring the locking mechanisms available in Visual Studio.
- [Voiceover] Before starting this demonstration,…I'll make a change in the visual studio options.…It is here in the Source Control section.…I currently have the visual studio team foundation server…plugin enabled.…It has a setting called environment.…The default is to set up the environment…for checkin and checkout…using team settings.…That's this value here.…If you work as a solo developer,…you might find this better.…Independent developer.…So I'll choose that one…and then click on okay to return back to the…main Visual Studio IDE.…
There are several ways to check out…items for editing in Visual Studio.…First way to look at is…by right clicking on the file…in solution explorer.…I'll edit this Tourstop.cs file.…Right click and choose check out for edit now.…You'll see in solution explorer,…there is a red check mark next to the item…that signifies that it is checked out.…When I hover over it,…I get a tool tip that its checked out to me.…That implies that if other team members…have checked this out,…I'll see different messages.…
