- [Narrator] The most commonly used format for learning assessments is the true/false and multiple choice test. It's simple, it's quick to grade, and it does give feedback, even if it's without detailed explanation, back to the student. So, let's look at how to build a better true/false, multiple choice exam. Here are some recommendations for effective questions, answers, and distractors, also known as wrong answer choices. Determine what you want students to know. Revisit the learning outcomes you may have articulated at the beginning of the course. Keep the question stems as short and concise as possible while still giving the student the relevant context. Make your answer choices parallel in structure. For example, don't give away the correct answer by changing the verb tense or making it sound more formal than the other choices.
