- [Narrator] As a teacher, what requirements do you legally have to provide accommodations for special needs for exams? Should you ask if assistance is needed or wait for a request? Should you require any proof that assistance is necessary? These are all questions that not only teachers, but also administrators, corporate trainers, and instructional designers should be prepared to answer. Now, as a disclaimer, I should mention that I'm not a lawyer and this should not be misconstrued as legal advice. This is simply my understanding, and perceptions, and opinions, and recommendations as an instructional designer. For students with special needs on learning assessments, you should make all reasonable and possible accommodations so that their assessment is not skewed in any way by a special need not being met. This doesn't necessarily mean that you have to rewrite an exam or change the grading structure, rather that perhaps extra time is needed, or an alternate test taking environment…
