- [Voiceover] Data collections often represent data, using abbreviations or codes. If you know where to look, you can find the information you want. In this movie, I will show you how to return the data you need front the start, and/or middle of a string, as well as how to split your data into multiple strings. I'll start out in PowerPoint, and then move over to Tableau. The first string function I'll cover is LEFT, and as the name implies, it takes the string, and then returns a given number of characters from the left end of the string. RIGHT does the same thing for the right side of the string. And MID looks in the middle of your string. You need to tell it where to start, and then also the number of characters to look for. And finally, there's SPLIT. SPLIT is very useful if your string is broken up by what are called delimiters. Delimiters indicate the end of one value, and the start of the next. In English, we use spaces between words, and the space delimits the boundary between…
