Join Matt Francis for an in-depth discussion in this video Parameters: Solution, part of Tableau 10 for Data Scientists.
- [Narrator] Here's a solution for the parameter challenge.…First, we're gonna make our line chart.…We're gonna put order date on our column…and we change it to be weekly.…We want sales on row and we're gonna color it by region.…Now, we're gonna create our parameter.…We go to create parameter, we'll call it Sales,…we change it to an integer,…and we're gonna have a range of values.…We'll set the minimum as 1…and the maximum as twenty five thousand.…
Hit okay, add our parameter control…and add our reference line.…It's gonna be based off our new parameter…and we'll change the label to show the value.…Now, we can change our value and see it appear.…Next, we want our selection of our dimension.…For that, we're gonna create a second parameter.…We'll call that selected dimension.…This is gonna be a string.…We need a list, so I'm gonna use region,…I'll use segment, and then I'll use subcategory.…
We now need to create a calculated field from this parameter…so we can actually use it in our vis.…We'll call it selection…and then we're gonna do our case statement.…
The training starts with one of the most important features in Tableau: the difference between the green and blue pills (discrete and continuous data) and how this affects every single action Tableau performs. Then find out how to add new maps and create more effective dashboards that maximize screen real estate. Discover how actions can link together sheets and provide greater levels of interactivity and performance, and how formatting can make an ordinary dashboard demand attention. Plus, get some bonus tips on performing date and time calculations in Tableau. This course deep-dives into the practical, applicable, and essential skills that anyone doing data visualization and analytics in a professional setting needs to have.
