Find the value of an attribute
- [Presenter] Some values, such as dates, require special handling and tableau. If you want to display the values from one of those fields in the rows or column shelf, you can change the value type from a dimension to an attribute. In this movie, I will show you how to do that. My sample file is the Attribute Workbook, and you can find it in the Chapter Two folder of the Exercise Files collection. I have a series of clients, and the scenario I envision here is that the clients would like me to give them a proposal for a cost for hosting a conference at our hotel. So over in the dimensions area, you see that I have dates for projected completion and when the proposal is required. If I want to add the Proposal Required field, which is a date field, to the rows area, I can drag it there. And you see that I get the year. And of course, I can click the Show Detail button to display the quarter, then the month and so on. However, if I want to display the entire date, then I can display the…
