Define function syntax in Tableau 10

- [Instructor] Like other data analysis programs, Tableau expects you to create the calculation by following specific rules called a syntax. The more familiar you are with Tableau syntax, the easier it will be for you to create calculations quickly and get them right the first time. In this movie, I will describe the elements that you can include in the calculation and how to identify them. There are four basic elements of a calculation, and those are functions, fields, arguments, and level of detail. I'll go into each of those in a bit more detail now. A function is a built-in calculation. If you start typing in a calculation, you will see function names appear in an auto complete list. Everything acted upon by a function is enclosed within parentheses. So for example, you might have ABS, which finds the absolute value of a number, then in parentheses, you would have minus 14. In this case, absolute value of minus 14 is distance from zero, so it would return 14. Next are fields…
