Creating a selection filter
- [Instructor] When you save data in a Tableau workbook, the program maintains an internal list of the values in each column. If you want to filter a column so only certain values appear, you can take advantage of that internal list by creating a selection filter. In this movie, I will show you how to create a selection filter to limit the data that appears in your sheet. My sample file is the SelectionFilter workbook and you can find it in the Chapter06 folder of the Exercise Files collection. To create a selection filter, you first need to add the field by which you want to filter to the Filter's area. To do that, you go to the Data tab and then you click the down arrow of the pill that represents the field by which you want to filter. So in this case I want to filter by Property City which is my first column here. So I'll go over to the data area and then hover the mouse pointer over Property City, click the down arrow and then click Show Filter. That displays the Property City…
