Create an ad hoc calculation
- [Instructor] In the previous movie, I showed you how to create a calculated field that you can include as a permanent part of a workbook. If you just want to create a quick summary and don't need to make the results of the calculation available throughout the workbook, you can create what's called an Ad Hoc Calculation. I'll show you how to do that in this movie. My sample file is the ad hoc workbook. You can find it in the chapter one folder of the exercise files collection. Let's say that I want to create a visualization with my product category and product name. I could do that by dragging product category from the data panel to the rows shelf. Doing so establishes my first level of organization. Then I could drag over product name to the right of product category on the rows shelf, and then I have furnishings, alarm clock, armoire, and so on.
