In this video, learn how to count the number of distinct items in a set, such as the number of states represented by your hotel’s visitors.
- [Voiceover] Counting things,…the task for which arithmetic was invented,…isn't as glamorous as standard deviations…or percentile rankings,…but it is useful in many business contexts.…In this movie, I will show you how to count…the number of items in a group,…as well as the number of distinct items.…My sample file is the Count Workbook,…and you can find it in the Chapter Two folder…of your Exercise Files collection.…In this workbook, I have a single worksheet,…and on it, I have a visualization that shows…the product category, my five product categories,…and the total of the cost of the orders that were placed…for each of those categories.…
Let's say that I want to see something different,…that I want to see the number of orders…for each of those categories.…If I want to do that, I can go to the Data panel.…And at the bottom, under Measures,…you'll see Number of Records.…And if I drag Number of Records to the Marks card…and put it on top of Text,…then I have the total cost of the orders…and then I have the number of records.…
