Connect to spatial data files
- [Instructor] Tableau gives you a lot of ways to map your data. Until Tableau 10.2 though, you could not connect directly to files that contained geospatial data. In this movie I will show you how to create those connections so you can map your data effectively. I'm starting out in Tableau. I'm at the start screen, and to connect to a spatial data file such as a Shape file or a KML file, I'll go over under Connect, in the navigation bar and click Spatial file. I'll navigate to the Chapter 14 folder of the exercise files collection, which contains the Shape file for United States congressional districts. So what I'm about to do is download data in the form of a Shape file, that will allow me to create a map based on congressional districts in the United States. So I'll double click the .shp file here. And the Tableau will create the connection. So I'm taking a look and I see the data. Everything looks good.
