- [Instructor] Color in Tableau is a fantastic way of making your dashboard look really attractive. But it can also be used to encode data. Now the way that Tableau does this depends on whether we're using a discreet or a continuous measure. That is, a green or blue pill. Let's take a look and see how Tableau treats each one of these. To start with, I'm gonna build a simple bar chart. So we'll put region on our rows and we'll put sales on our column. Now to add a color, all we have to do is drag a field onto the color shelf on the marks card. So in this case, let's take region. Now region is a discreet dimension. It has has four values. So Tableau interprets this and creates a palette that has four colors. And assigns the default color palette to it. If we don't like those colors, we can click on the color shelf.
