Prep uses the same calculated field functionality as Tableau Desktop. Matt Francis demonstrates how to use functions and calculations to change values and create a new column of data.
- [Male Narrator] Calculated fields are a way…to add additional data to your data set…by modifying existing columns…to create a new column of data.…Now the way that calculated fields work in Tableau Prep…is identical to the way they work in Tableau Desktop.…Now calculated fields are a massive subject,…and we're not going to go into too much detail here.…If you want to learn more about calculated fields,…then you can check out my course…on Tableau 10 for Data Scientists…where I go into calculated fields in much more detail.…So let's look at the calculated fields example…that we have here.…I'm looking at this Superstore's sales data set.…
Now, one of the fields we have here is quantity,…so that's the amount of items in each order.…And we can see we have a range of values in here.…Now say, for example, I want to highlight…all of the sales that were above 10,…and I want to know for each sale,…was it higher or lower than 10.…So for that, I'm going to use a calculated field.…There's two ways of creating the calculated field.…
