Aggregating data

- By default Tableau Prep will import and show you as many rows as it possibly can. It's often the case that you actually just want the summary of the data or an aggregate of some of the fields. Now a typical use case of this might be that you want to join it to another dataset and that's at a different level of granularity. Or maybe you want to summarize things by say the month or a particular dimension. To see it in action let's look at this dataset here. So it's called Full Flight Delays and you can find that in your data folder. Now I have already opened it up and I'm looking at the first clean steps. We can actually look at some of the data. Now this is a pretty big dataset. I've got half a million rows of information in here. And it contains the airline carrier number, the town number, flight number, but importantly the thing we're interested in is this delay. So this tells us how many minutes each flight was delayed.
