Using Operations Manager monitors and rules

- [Instructor] Monitors and rules are the main elements for measuring whether or not a System Center Operations Manager agent is detecting errors or is healthy. However, monitors and rules are slightly different from each other. Monitors set the state of an object, while rules create alerts and collect data for analysis and reporting. Now, each monitor and rule is primarily defined by the source of the data or the management pack that is used to perform its required function. So we want to create a monitor if we want to affect the health of an object. In addition to generating an alert, which a monitor does, a monitor will affect the health state of its target object. This is displayed in state views and availability reports. So, if we're noticing that there is something wrong, then we can see that in the monitor, the device is going to show up as unhealthy.
