Working with the compressor
- [Instructor] Last, we have our compressor. This compressor is pretty straightforward, with basic controls found on almost every compressor in the digital or analog domain. So I'm building on the patch that we worked on in the last movie covering reverb. You can hear it here. (synth sounds) And we have our compressor enabled as well. So on our ratio knob, when it's all the way down, there will be no compression. When it's all the way up, the compressor will act as a limiter, and this is gonna let no signal pass over the specified threshold. (synth sounds) Simultaneously, the compressor won't be enabled if the threshold is all the way down. Signal needs to cross the threshold, and increasing the threshold will actually decrease the value of the threshold in decibels. You can see it going down up here. So in other words, it's going to kick in at lower volumes. (synth sounds) Now attack is going to determine how long it takes to compress once the signal crosses the threshold. (synth…
