Tests for one or two means
- [Instructor] Testing means, or other statistics, against particular values, or between two groups is a very common part of statistical analysis. And it allows us to answer basic questions, such as whether men earn statistically more than women, or whether foreign cars are statistically more expensive than domestic cars. Alternatively, we may want to know whether a value is really statistically different from zero. In this session, we'll explore how to do this in Stata, and introduce ways to test for means and other statistics. We'll introduce four new commands. These are ttest, which tests for means, sdtest, which tests for standard deviations, and prtest, which tests for proportions. Finally, we'll also look at hotelling, which allows us to test for group mean differences. Let's head to Stata and explore the price of cars a little bit further.
