Prerequisites

- [Instructor] What kind of prerequisites are required for this course? What kind of skills and experiences should you already have before you start your introduction to Stata 15? Well, that can be answered easily. You do not need any prior Stata skills. Neither do you need any prior statistical software skills. The aim of this course is to give you a complete introduction to all the basic and most useful functions available in Stata. This course can be followed by anybody with an interest in applied statistics. Moreover, you do not need any coding skills for this course. However, at this point, I should add that the majority of functions of Stata 15 are taught via code and not via what I call the point and click method. The reason for this is that whilst the point and click method can be faster and initially more user-friendly, it limits your real life options when things get serious. The most serious flaw of pointing and clicking is the lack of reproducibility, and nobody, absolutely nobody that I know professionally uses statistical software without being able to replicate or transfer their work to other people. Using code is good practice, and that's why we're using it here. How about statistics? Do you need to know a lot of statistics to follow this course? No, the vast majority of this course requires very little understanding of statistics, since I will explain and interpret everything you see. When things become difficult, I will try to boil it down to its most simple components. And I promise you, there are no equations in this course.
