- I've already loaded a panel version of the nlsw data called nlswork. This data set comes attached to this session. This data set is the same as the nlsw data used in other chapters, but now contains multiple observations for individuals. First, let's set this data to panel data. We can do that by typing xtset and then specifying the id variable which is idcode. idcode. And then the time variable which is year. Execute that. And the data is now set to panel data. The data is unbalanced and ranges from 1968 to 88. But it contains some gaps. To explore the unbalanced nature of our data we can use the xtdescribe command. Let's go ahead and do that. xtdescribe. xtdescribe shows us the nine most common data patterns. We can adjust the number of patterns we see with the pattern option up to 1,000 should we wish.
