Naming and labeling variables

- [Instructor] In this session, we're going to explore how to rename and relabel variables. We're going to learn how we can rename single variables, rename groups of variables, change existing labels, and create new labels. You should not underestimate the importance of accurate labeling. This can be a very important part of data manipulation, especially when you're working with larger datasets, or in teams. We're going to introduce the rename command, and the label command. Rename allows you to rename variables, whilst label allows you to create labels. We'll also take a brief look at the varmanage command, which calls up the Variable Manager. Let's head off to Stata and explore these commands further. Here we are in Stata with the auto data already loaded. Before we continue with the rename and label commands, I would like to point out that this is one of the few occasions why sometimes I recommend a graphical approach, as opposed to the written code approach.
