Geographic maps

- [Instructor] In this session we're going to explore the concept of geographic mapping. For example, you may want to present unemployment statistics as a thematic map where regions with high unemployment have darker shades and regions with low unemployment, lighter shades. It's important to note that, by default, Stata cannot do this. It has no in-built mapping functionality. However, there are some user-written programs that allow us to create basic spacial maps. Please note that all of these user-written programs require you to download and install them as a DO files into your Stata folder. You should always seek permission from your network administrator if you're behind a firewall or in a secure data setting. Here's an example of a map I created. It shows the proportion of young adults with professional or manager occupations in England and Wales at local authority level in both 2001 and 2011.
